Manila, Philippines, December 9 – Exist Global, the Philippines’ pioneering open source software engineering firm, today announced that its CEO Jerry Rapes has been elected as a member of the 2011 Board of Directors of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA). PSIA, a non-profit organization that aims to promote the growth and global competitiveness of the Philippine software industry, represents the biggest alliance of software development enterprises in the Philippines.

In this new role, Jerry will help cultivate the Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) ecosystem in Visayas and Mindanao (VisMin) to deliver more revenue and more job opportunities to support PSIA’s goal of capturing a bigger market in 2011. “Cebu and other emerging cities in VisMin are poised for explosive ITO growth in the coming years. Cebu alone has about 7,500 software developers at end of 2009 and has been contributing significantly to the country’s ICT growth for the past decade,” said Jerry.
In the last 4 years, Jerry has worked closely with the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDF-IT) and Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in building a broader roadmap and a stronger and sustainable foundation of the local IT-BPO industries. He has also been an active leader of DevCon Foundation in the promotion of the “IT Pinoy talent” all around the Philippines.
His work at Exist augments the same advocacy, given Exist’s initiatives on Open Source, capability development, and other grassroots efforts. “At Exist, we strive to create that model of delivering innovation with the Filipino developer as the main character — that his ingenuity and expertise be in the forefront of our business and showcased in our services,” said Jerry.
“Exist has already made the vision of “the Filipino software developer as world-class” real. I’m honored to be part of PSIA’s Board of Directors and I look forward to helping shape the future of the ITO industry in VisMin,” adds Jerry. “There is a lot of talent in the VisMin regions and for PSIA to be truly the umbrella organization of software development companies in the Philippines — then it has to evolve to include companies outside of Metro Manila.”
